Merence Sibomana

ImagXEco project leader

Merence Sibomana is a computer science engineer with 20+ years experience of working in medical imaging industry. He graduated from Université catholique de Louvain with a Master's in Computer Science Engineering. He started ImagX-Eco project in 12/2015 with the aim of developing a sustainable medical imaging solution for populations in low resource regions.  From 1991 to 2001, he worked on multi-modality (PET, MR, CT) with the PET Research laboratory at UCL in Louvain-La-Neuve. In 2002, he joined Siemens Medical Solutions (former CTI PET Systems) in Knoxville (TN, USA) where he worked PET/CT software with special focus on data corrections and reconstruction.  He worked as a consultant from 2008 to 2012 to lead the collaboration of several University Research Centers (5 in US, 3 in Canada and  8 in Europe) to  finalize the development of the Siemens PET High Resolution Research Tomograph (HRRT) scanner to bring the scanner from experimental status to an efficient tool for neurosciences research and clinical applications. He came back at UCL in 2013 to join the ImagX project (UCL/IBA projecf funded by the Walloon Region) and later started ImagXEco to reuse the experience from ImagX in developping solutions for low-resource regions.
