Alexandre Willème

Researcher

Alexandre Willème earned his BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Université catholique de Louvain (UCL, Belgium) in 2013 and 2015, respectively. As part of his master he designed a High-Level Synthesis hardware implementation of the DSC (Display Stream Compression) lightweight video codec on FPGA

He is currently preparing a PhD and is working on several topics related to video compression and digital electronics under the supervision of Pr. Benoit Macq at UCL Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Electronics and Applied Mathematics (ICTEAM). His research interests lie in the field of lightweight video compression and frame buffer compression. He is particularly interested in the implementation of highly efficient video compression algorithms that answer the need for low complexity solutions in embedded and power-aware systems
He is an active member of the SC29/WG1 a.k.a. JPEG committee and is mainly involved in the JPEG XS initiative. His work is currently funded by the WALInnov project TrustEye in collaboration with the intoPIX company.
