PiLAB is a research team from the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Electronics and Applied Mathematics (ICTEAM), within the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) in Belgium. The team is led by Professor Benoît Macq and counts around 30 researchers, involved in 3 main research topics: Signal & Pixels, Medical Imaging, and Interaction.

Signals & Pixels

Inspired from fundamental research, we design innovative software and hardware signal processing solutions. Our research activity includes analysis, transformation, secure transmission and efficient representation of any signal (image, speech, lidar, biosignals, etc.).

watermarking, image compression, IoT, blockchain, trusted transmission, image segmentation, iterative image reconstruction, distributed signal processing, speech analysis
Medical Imaging

Medical imaging is key to developing personalized medicine. In our lab, we perform medical image acquisition, processing and analysis in order to adapt treatment to suit each individual patient. Our focus is to develop methods to advance adaptive radiotherapy and investigate brain microstructure degeneracies.

MRI, Cone Beam CT, proton radiograph & CT, dual energy CT, deep learning, image segmentation, iterative image reconstruction, brain microstructures imaging, adaptive protontherapy, radiomics, in-vivo proton range measurements.
Interactions

We employ multimodal HCI and user-centred design to deliver a great User Experience. Our research aims to develop more effective, immersive and entertaining ways of interaction. We collaborate with SMEs active in the domain and launch our own startups.

AR/VR, multi-agent systems, IoT, patient empowerment, UX, e-learning, multimodal interactions, Transmedia, e-health, gamification.
